Framhaldsskólinn í Austur-Skaftafellssýslu (FAS) will celebrate 30 years nest year. The students are 160, aged 16 – 20+ years.
The school is in the town of Höfn wich has about 1800 inhibitants. Höfn is on the south-east coast of Iceland, next to Vatnajökull glacier, the largest glacier in Europe. Large part of the municipality is within Vatnajökulsþjóðgarður, National Park which is the largest national park in Europe, about 12.800 km2 or 13% of Iceland. Höfn is 5-6 hours drive from the capital Reykjavik and is quite isolated geographically. The the next village to the east is 100 km away and the next to the southwest it 200 km away.
The main industry in the town is fishing, fish processing and tourism which has increased greatly in the recent years.
